This Throwback Thursday we’re looking back at a program that has been changing lives for decades. In 1989, Mountain Projects launched the Foster Grandparent Program through a federal grant, creating opportunities for older adults to make a lasting difference in the lives of local children. Ashley demonstrated incredible determination, perseverance, and hard work. Throughout her educational journey, the WIOA National Dislocated Worker Grant helped cover tuition, travel expenses, and supplies needed for classes and clinicals—allowing her to focus on achieving her goals.
“My porch was hanging on by one bolt,” Cronon said, recalling the next day when she returned home. “I realized when I was standing there looking at my house, ‘I don’t have a spoon anymore.’ Everything I worked my whole life for was gone.”

Through the coordinated efforts of Mountain Projects, community partners and generous donors, Roger and Michelle now stand in the doorway of a new home — one built not just with lumber and nails, but with a lot of determination and compassion for those who lost their homes in the floods.
