We Remember The Rev. Carl Matthews, Past Board President
Mountain Projects mourns the passing of The Rev. Carl Matthews, a longtime leader and advocate for our organization and community. Carl served as President of the Mountain Projects Board from 2019 – 2025.
Initially a Head Start parent, Carl understood the impact community action programs can have on children, families, and entire communities. That perspective guided his leadership and commitment to the work of Mountain Projects.
Carl was active in service throughout his life. He was inducted into the NC Community Action Hall of Fame and received the 2019 Outstanding Senior Volunteer Award from the Haywood County Volunteer Center.
Deepest condolences to Carl’s family and to all who knew and loved him. He will be missed.
