Homes for Hope Housewarming in Jonathan Valley

Friends and family, neighbors, donors, volunteers and Mountain Projects staff gathered in Bethel Village recently to celebrate Michelle Parker, a community member who lost her home in Clyde (twice!) due to the devastating floods from remnants of Tropical Storm Fred and Hurricane Helene.

Executive Director Si Simmons handed over the keys of the two-bed/two-bath home to Michelle and announced, “This is what it’s all about – neighbors helping neighbors. Mountain Projects and Smoky Mountain Housing are pleased to have played a part in building this home with you. It’s taken a village, and we are happy to welcome you home for the holidays.”

We are so happy for Michelle, the first recipient of the Homes for Hope project, which builds houses for people who lost their homes during Helene.

Mountain Projects continues to work with households that are recovering from flood losses. If readers would like to contribute to these efforts, visit https://mountainprojects.org/giving/.
