SHIIP Program

The Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) is a division of the North Carolina Department of Insurance that strives to assist Medicare beneficiaries in making well-informed health insurance choices, offering free unbiased health information.

At the Haywood Senior Resource Center, John Chicoine and volunteer staff answer questions and counsel Medicare beneficiaries and caregivers about Medicare, Medicare supplements, Medicare Advantage, Medicare prescription drug plans, long-term care insurance and other health insurance concerns.
