Mountain Projects receives many emergency calls and service referrals each day, and many are heart wrenching: households that choose between medicine and food, parents who need fuel to get their children to school and themselves to work and mothers who need assistance with rent to keep their family housed and together. It’s become all too common, but we’ve found a way to get people through some of these rough spots and into other programs that provide longer term relief.
In other rare instances our communities are faced with natural disasters that can be overwhelming.
This is how and where our Emergency Fund comes in. Unlike grant-driven programming intended for specific community needs, the Emergency Fund is an unrestricted pool of money that helps us “turn on a dime” to answer unexpected crises. Our donors are assured of having a tremendous and immediate impact in Haywood and Jackson Counties. Once we are able to provide some immediate relief, our staff can help to work with those in need to shift them toward self sufficiency.
Over our five decade history we’ve earned a reputation as a trustworthy local agency, able to put our donors’ money to efficient, effective work in the community.
