Waynesville, NC – December 4, 2024 – Patsy Davis, Executive Director of Mountain Projects, was honored this week with the prestigious North Carolina Long Leaf Pine Award by Governor Roy Cooper. The award, one of the highest civilian honors bestowed by the state, recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to their communities and demonstrated exceptional service to the people of North Carolina.
The ceremony, held at the Wells Event Center in Waynesville, North Carolina, was attended by local leaders, community members, and colleagues of Davis who have witnessed her dedication to improving the lives of residents across Western North Carolina.
Board President, Rev. Carl Matthews commended Davis for her exceptional leadership in serving vulnerable populations, fostering community development, and advocating for policies that improve access to essential resources. As Executive Director of Mountain Projects, Davis has been a driving force behind the organization’s work, which focuses on alleviating poverty, promoting self-sufficiency, and addressing the needs of underserved communities.
“Patsy Davis’ commitment to the people of Haywood and Jackson Counties has made a huge difference in the lives of countless individuals and families,” said Brandon Rogers, Vice-Chairman of the Haywood County Board of Commissioners and Board member of Mountain Projects.
Under Davis’s guidance, Mountain Projects has grown into a vital resource for the region, offering a wide range of programs that address economic disparities, housing insecurity, education, and healthcare access. Davis has been instrumental in building partnerships with local organizations, government agencies, and businesses to ensure that the needs of low-income families are met with compassion and effectiveness.
In addition to her work with Mountain Projects, Davis has been an active volunteer and leader in several community organizations. She has served on numerous boards, advocating for rural health and wellness, workforce development, and affordable housing initiatives. Davis’s approach is always rooted in collaboration and community-centered solutions, making her a respected figure both locally and statewide.
The Long Leaf Pine Award is named after the Longleaf Pine tree, a symbol of North Carolina’s rich history, natural beauty, and resilience. Recipients of the award are selected for their exemplary contributions to their communities and to the state as a whole.
“I am deeply humbled and honored to receive this award,” said Davis. “This recognition is a reflection of our dedicated team at Mountain Projects, our community partners, and the many individuals who inspire me every day. I am grateful to Governor Cooper for this honor and remain committed to serving the people of our region with the same passion and purpose.”
