Youth in Action

Youth in Action

Youth in Action is a new program of The Haywood County Volunteer Center, providing our young people with the opportunity to serve the community while having fun at the same time.

Under the leadership of an AmeriCorps* VISTA member, and in collaboration with other youth serving organizations, projects will be developed so that our young people will be able to achieve a feeling of self-worth and will gain the respect of their peers as well as their elders.

Researchers have found that teens who do volunteer work are happier than those who don't. Committing to something outside themselves gives a very powerful meaning to their lives. Having a goal is energizing, exciting.

"Community Service offers young people a valuable opportunity to make a difference, while providng them with a place to learn
and develop leadership, communication and team-building skills."

This is the mission of Youth in Action. The program will be open for young
people between the ages of ten and eighteen.
